Description

Burnisher • Arno • Carbur 2

  • The Arno Carbur 2 is widely regarded as the undisputed winner for prepping card scrapers with zero fuss
  • It is double-sided, featuring a round carbide rod on one face and a tapered, subtly radiused ridge on the other
  • The round rod pulls a whisper-fine burr for delicate smoothing passes, while the tapered edge turns a far more aggressive hook for hogging off material
  • The carbide inserts are indexed to automatically establish a 5° angle when held flush against the scraper edge, eliminating the usual wrist gymnastics at the vise
  • It comes complete with a genuine leather sheath

Specifications:

  • Body Material: Aluminum alloy
  • Burnisher Rods: Tungsten carbide
  • Rod Length: 30 mm
  • Dimensions: 154 x 32 x 8 mm
  • Weight: 80 g

Preparing and Sharpening the Card Scraper:

  • Square the Edge: Joint and hone the cutting edge strictly at 90° using a fine file or sharpening stone (a #1000 grit waterstone or medium oilstone works well as a finishing grit).
  • Prep the Faces: Lay the broad face flat on your finest stone or draw a burnisher across the flat edge with light pressure to clean off any remains of the previous burr.
  • Turn the Hook: Draw a burnisher firmly across the prepared edge at a slight 5–10° angle with even, controlled pressure along the entire length to turn a clean burr.
  • Dialing in the Cut: Heavier burnisher pressure draws a larger, more aggressive hook, while light, deliberate pressure leaves a fine, delicate burr suited for flawless finishing.
